Many people I meet for the first time think they've already met me, why?

When I meet people for the first time they often say, "Oh we've met before, don't I know you from such and such." Complete strangers thing they know me. I've been hugged, kissed (on the cheek) by strangers thinking they've just run into an old friend or long lost relative.





Does this happen to you? What do you make of it?

Many people I meet for the first time think they've already met me, why?
it hasn't happened to me personally (they must have broke the mold) but i have seen other people who, by the way they look, remind me of someone i knew before. interestingly enough, they never do remind me of someone i know NOW. is it the old hidden ball trick, or is patz just losing it?





maybe you're right and there is a limited supply of available faces... more likely we seek out things we are comfortable with as a way to organize new knowledge. when you see someone "familiar", could it be that you take the part you don't know and fill it in with someone you DO know, leading you to believe that you've met them before?





or maybe you just have one of those faces... be grateful they don't come up to you demanding that $500 you owe them!

Reply:Perhaps you just have a face that reminds many people of someone else. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. You may just have a face that is very comforting to others, so they therefore think they've met you before. No, this hasn't really happened to me, sorry. I would simply take it for what it's worth...a familiarity among strangers. :)

She has a familiar face, or so she says. Everyone thinks she looks familiar, even in cities she's never lived before.
Reply:Chances are you have very common facial features, so you look like a lot of people to other people. If this is true, people may look at you and focus on the part of your face that reminds them of the person they're missing, and therefore think you're them.
Reply:Maybe because something about you seems familiar to them. That only happens to me once in a while but not often.
