How can my husband and I meet new people in our own home town? I am 49, he is 61 and besides our grown kids,?

we have an eight-year-old. It is what it is. I think our age differences and the fact that we are much older parents of a young child really pose a problem. We live in a town known to be a place for retirees to relocate to. My husband and I don't go dancing or to bars. The churches are filled with the elderly. I would love to meet people from age 45 to 65 to socialize with. I would even love to meet people who are older parents like we are. Any suggestions from anyone would surely be appreciated. My husband is a bit of a homebody, but we are both in such a rut, I think he would like to get out a bit and meet some new people.

I don't know where you live, but we are pretty much in the same boat. We did some volunteer stuff and met some people we've grown to like a lot. We live in the the Houston, Texas, suburban area (between Conroe and Tomball LOL. Find that on a map!) We have a homeowner's association we got involved in too. Our youngest is 12 and we are almost the exact same age as you. So we understand the situation. We don't have a ton of friends, but we have met people by getting involved in things and some naturally migrate to us and we them. I think you know that you can't sit at home and hope it comes to you. We also took dance lessons (although it could have been crafts, or golf or whatever) which is another way to meet people. I hope you get a chance to meet some nice folks and have some fun. We've been looking for Bridge (cards) partners for 6 years and no luck. But parties playing games work pretty well. We used to go to a group that played bunco or bunko or something like that. It was a no brain game, but lots of social atmosphere.

Good luck!
Reply:Perhaps try joining an online group for people your age and in your area. There are probably a bunch of other people in your similar situation looking to find other people. Just have to hunt them down!

You could even create the group (Yahoo groups!) and advertise it. Search the groups for them and see what you find.

Start your own meetup group or join one in your area for whatever your hobbies or interests are.
Reply:Check to see if your local community college has any "community education" classes. They often offer stuff like "6 Weeks to Spanish" or "Pottery Making for Adults." There's usually all kinds of stuff available and you can meet folks in the classes.
