How can I meet new people?

I'm a freshman in college this year and although I still have my friends from back home, I am having trouble meeting new people here. The problem isn't about me being self conscious or something like that, it's the fact that I don't know a good place to meet people and more importantly. More importantly, however, is the problem of meeting the type of person I'd want to be friends with. I don't want to sound stuck up or anything, but I just feel more mature than the kids here. They're more obsessed with partying all the time and getting drunk, when I'm not interested in any of that. I seem to have trouble keeping up a conversation with most people here seeing as how my interests differ from thiers. This problem extends to meeting girls. So basically, I'd just like some advice letting me know what to do. Thanks.

Reply:Join a selection of really diverse societies, some of which interest you, and some of which concentrate on something you'd never really considered previously, eg Extreme Sports maybe, or volunteer work. You'll meet a really diverse selction of people and learn something new in the process! Good Luck.

Reply:Look into joining a group with the same hobbies or interests you have, then you'll meet someone you'll be able to connect with. If you don't have any yet, think of something you've always wanted to do, then find someone or an organization that would help facilitate your desires. You'll surely find someone of your caliber there.
Reply:For a freshman you are indeed mature in your thinking. Away from home, it is lonely to be on your own. You didn't mention you are a christian because the best place to socialize is in the church or fellowship. You can also try joining clubs or organizations in your school, e.g. tennis club, debating club. There are many. Just open your eyes. Avoid drinking and drugs. You have a good future ahead of you.

Reply:Get a hobby and let it grow. You could maybe start flying model airplanes and meet people from all walks of life that would enjoy a lesson in model airplanes as you get a lesson in friend making. Hope this helps.
