I work six days a week and I am really shy when it comes to women, and I was used to talking and hanging out with women back in high school and college and now that I work it makes it really hard to meet people, I just dont want to go to bars and meet strangers, can someone make a suggestion?

It's been proven ( by me) and what japanese people in chat rooms such as skype tell me. Japanese girls that travel to america, are usually outgoing and want to meet outgoing talkative americans. I like them, like their culture, know some japanese.. It would be nice if one of them at least,, had interest to talk to me. All of the ones ive tried since 2002 when i started studying japanese, they are not interested.. and think i'm a stup*d weirdo just because i'm not like the image of americans they have: talktive, confident, use slang and expressions. Me , i'm just simple with a limited english vocabulary and so i don't seem like american to them( or even to other americans). I also don't travel.. so is there no hope?

When you find someone who you would like to be a penpal with just talk to them and so and so on. It's not ideal but i made loads of friends from all across the world. I work at a family business so I dont have any "work" friends and I have tried online dating but that has not been too successful. Then I joined a book club and they stopped meeting. I found some old friends on myspace from high school and college but we are all at different places. Some have kids and some have husbands and wives. maybe i'm just nervous. i feel this way, but i always do end up meeting people. now i'm forgetting what i do. and now that i think about it more and more i'm getting nervous. so like say before the start of class on the first day or whatever. how can i approach someone and meet someone new. I just want to be refreshed or maybe learn some new techniques. i'm nervous is all.

If you're talking about the start of a new year, either with a new course or a new school (say if you're a freshman), then remember everyone else is in the same boat as you. They're all new and no one knows anyone else so they're all looking for friends.

If you see someone you think you'd like to talk to, just go up and strike up a conversation. It can be about anything it just has to break the ice and get the ball rolling. Once you're talking start finding out about them and see if they're someone you'd like to hang out with. You only really need to do this with 5 or 6 people because everyone else is going to do the same thing and that 5 can quickly turn into 20.

Just relax and act naturally, you'll be fine. Even someone as socially inept as me was able to find loads of friends when I started university, and I was an American in a London school. I had to put up with many jokes but after a while it all evens out. *Evil grin*

Self defence is a great skill to have and it's fun too.

Pick one that's not too hardcore and focuses on the self defence rather that offence.

And then when you get over being so nervous just walk up and say hi how are you, and such. So you need to first find yourself and get over being so nervous or you have set yourself up for I cannot make it. Get your nerve up and face it and you will make it fine. Reply:Just be yourself. Dont get to class too early or too late. Arrive when you might have a choice of a seat next to someone who looks like you might like them. Trust your instincts on that one. If you see someone you want to talk to, ask them a question, and be very polite. If you want to get someones attention and cant seem to, drop something close to them. When you pick it up it will give you a chance to talk to them.

I have this thing against people who chat with people they've never met, or will never meet.

I have a lot of people on my Messenger, but they are all people I know.

I have quite a number of people I haven't seen in years, but they are old highschool classmates, old co-wokers, and cousins.

I specially get annoyed when I meet people who talk about the lives of their on-line friends who they've never met or are unlikely to meet as though they were friends from childhood.

What's the deal with those people?

LOL! I don't have strangers on my list either. Maybe these people are lonely and don't have anybody else to talk with? Or maybe these are shy people and they can be the way they really are. I mean, when you talk online with somebody you don't know, you don't have anything to hide and can express yourself freely. There's a lot of shady people out there pretending to be nice, family people so they go online and all the poo-poo from their heads comes out.

I recently broke up with my boyfriend because he cheated on me. We had what I thought was an amazing relationship, but I found out he was just another liar and had to end it. How to meet people (special situation)??

I'm 19 and my social life is starting to depress me. I didn't go to HS and now I'm not in college, (I'm a concert musician/ homeschooled and now working at family business). I have friends in my nearby university/conservatory but I feel so awkward going there now cause I just broke up with my bf (of 1.5 yrs) who goes there, and I don't feel comfortable there thinking I'll bump into him any second..

I had other friends, but now they're all off to college outside of my state.

I guess I should admit I am a bit picky when it comes to friends, I'm more mature and need really interesting/funny people with ambitions/dreams/positivity in their life, or else I easily get bored!

When I was around 18s I used to go to Gaspanic in Minatomirai, but this one closed a while back.

I have no final decision, but i am considering breaking up with my boyfriend due to lack of love in our relationship..

Firstly, Ahmedabad, Varanasi and Jaisalmer are cities, not villages. Secondly, you can contact the YWCA or other organisations/ NGOs also having offices in France so that you can tie up with their Indian counterparts. This will ensure your safety and other issues.

Thirdly, check the web for registered homestays in India.

Also, it will be better if you initially put up in budget hotels wherever you go. Homestays are readily available in Ladakh (you may like to visit this place for amazing nature, buddhist gompas, german bakeries!), Kerala ( well known for its back waters, ayurvedic spas) , Goa (I am sure you have heard of its beaches). Be sure to use the services of a registered guide so that you are not caught unawares by unnecessary attention.

If you like wines, there are a lot of wine bars in town. The best wine bar is the Tasting Room, which has 3 locations - Uptown Park (610 at Post Oak), Midtown (Alabama and Kirby), and Downtown (Bagby). There is also other ones such as Cru at Woodland Town Center, Vino 100, Wine Bucket, etc.

If you like to work out, Memorial Park is great - lots of runners/joggers/walkers. People at Houston are all very friendly - the Southern hospitality mentality, so you can just walk up and ask people questions. Never know.

Another good place to meet people is Central Market, which has 2 locations - at Galleria area (Westheimer and Weslyan) and at Woodland Towncenter. It is a large supermarket with classes as well as lots of people shopping and discussing.

At my highschool there are a lot of cliques. When I go to college I want to be able to venture out and start all over. I want to be unknown. Basically there are two cliques in my school that never talked or were really ever friends and two of those people from the other clique will be attending the same college as me next year. If you're going to a local junior college or a small school close to home, it will be harder for you to get away from other's ideas of you carried over from high school. You will meet new people wherever you go, it's just easier to form new friendships and groups without high school expectations if you're away from home or at a larger school.
Reply:This depends on a very simple answer. Where is everyone in your high school going to attend college. If you're all going to go to the local junior college then yes, you will probably be with the same people. But if you're going to go to a place that's far away from where you live now then you can probably start off fresh.

I would also just point out one other thing.

I am 25 now, and I'm a few years out of college. I will say that many kids grow up in college. Not right away, but a lot of that petty clique B.S. goes away. You will become a completely different person in the next few years. Just go out and make as many friends as you can. College is the best time of your life.

Of course there are cliques but they aren't as bad as high school. These people have been through the things you have and don't feel the need to cling to old habits. Make sure you don't just find a friend and then be over with that because you will then be known as the kid who with no friends!!
Reply:A college campus is so big you may never even see these people. Even if they end up in one of your classes, which I doubt would happen, you won't notice them in a class of 100 or more students. Don't worry about this. Those 2 will be lost in the crowd. Start fresh, make new friends, have fun.

I am finding it hard to meet new people, in work I am limited to about 5 people all of whom are much older than me. I can't meet through other friends as I only have 1 still remaining nearby (the rest have moved away) and she can't go out very often because she has a kid and is a little scared of social sitautions.

I have the same problem, having just moved across the country from my home state, but part of my problem is that I'm super shy.

I would suggest taking a class at a community college maybe, or joining a club or organization; volunteering, join a book club, learn a new craft or hobby (knitting and scrapbooking are popular ones, guitar lessons, etc)... that way you'll find people who you have something in common with, too. I'm not talking about just dating, but meeting people to go to a movie with or see a show or something.

Another idea is to use Meetup to find people who have the same interests as you. They have all kinds of different groups - career, singles, books, politics, etc, and people get together and might have a book discussion or I even noticed one called the Naperville Laughter Group (after putting in my zip code in Illinois) where the people who got together went to a comedy club to enjoy a show together.

Good luck! I know it's hard (you think, how the hell did I meet people before??) and overwhelming to meet a bunch of new people.

I travel in the winter time for 3-4 months every winter. I run a landscape business and stay very busy during the months between middle March and midde November, and do not have really ANY social life much during this time.

I want to meet friends and possibly a girlfriend overseas, but when I travel, I always find myself a bit lonely and difficult to meet people for long term relationships.

What are the best ways to meet , especially a girlfriend you think, in for example , Europe? (if going there)

p.s. I was thinking, if i could take a class or something , like an art class it would be nice , but I really think that would be expensive. but I am thinking of picking a selected city/town to visit and staying in one place (area) for the full 3-4 months this time, instead of traveling around a lot.(as it is interesting, but kind of tiring as well, and lacks depth or appreciation sometimes)

Remembering people's names needs a slightly different approach from all the others explained so far in this section. The techniques used, though, are quite simple:

1. Face association

Examine a person's face discretely when you are introduced. Try to find an unusual feature, whether ears, hairline, forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, chin, complexion, etc.

Create an association between that characteristic, the face, and the name in your mind. The association may be to link the person with someone else you know with the same name. Alternatively it may be to associate a rhyme or image of the name with the person's face or defining feature.

2. Repetition

When you are introduced, ask for the person to repeat their name. Use the name yourself as often as possible (without overdoing it!). If it is unusual, ask how it is spelled or where it is comes from, and if appropriate, exchange cards. Keep in mind that the more often you hear and see the name, the more likely it is to sink in.

Also, after you have left that person's company, review the name in your mind several times. If you are particularly keen you might decide to write it down and make notes.

If you are an adult here's some advice from my own experiences....

I've met many people from various dating sites over the years and actually met my current boyfriend of over a year on lavalife. Normal people do use the internet for meeting potential mates. Having said that....always remain cautious and safe.

-when you initially "meet" someone on-line, establish an on-line rapore before heading to that face to face meeting

-don't set up dinner and a movie for a first encounter. Keep it to a simple cup of coffee or ice cream just to get a feel for someone's character

we have an eight-year-old. It is what it is. I think our age differences and the fact that we are much older parents of a young child really pose a problem. We live in a town known to be a place for retirees to relocate to. My husband and I don't go dancing or to bars. The churches are filled with the elderly. I don't know where you live, but we are pretty much in the same boat. We did some volunteer stuff and met some people we've grown to like a lot. We live in the the Houston, Texas, suburban area (between Conroe and Tomball LOL. Find that on a map!) We have a homeowner's association we got involved in too. Our youngest is 12 and we are almost the exact same age as you. So we understand the situation. We don't have a ton of friends, but we have met people by getting involved in things and some naturally migrate to us and we them. I think you know that you can't sit at home and hope it comes to you. We also took dance lessons (although it could have been crafts, or golf or whatever) which is another way to meet people. I hope you get a chance to meet some nice folks and have some fun. We've been looking for Bridge (cards) partners for 6 years and no luck. But parties playing games work pretty well. We used to go to a group that played bunco or bunko or something like that. It was a no brain game, but lots of social atmosphere.

I am a 13 year old girl in middle school, I'm uncordinated people. I asked this question already, but I got "join a club or sport"/ "talk to people you want to meet" I can't play sports. I'm already in half of the clubs (there are two clubs. One of them is Anime Club the other is Drama and they didn't start it this year). I have already met everyone that I could possibly have an idea of who they are and they're all so typically the same. The like anime, they skateboard, they don't do sports, they hate preps, they wear black, they think -insert anime character here- is hot, they have an online boyfriend/ boyfriend in our group (at least the girls do), and they twist people's words around to make it seem perverted. There is a branch off of our group that not as many people in our group talk to, but there are a lot more people in our school who talk to them. I try to hang out with them, but they're even MORE perverted than my normal group, and they're pretty much "the wrong crowd".

you may want to consider volunterring instead of the clubs/sports. It sounds like you are tired with the same type of people that are available, and volunterring may give you a different selection group to choose from.

Another option that you have would be to change your routine. sometimes just a little difference in where you sit in class (if you don't have assigned seating) or taking a different route to class or changing your normal afterschool routine will open new doors to different people. You can also look for a study group for a class or team project that you have to do, not only will you learn the subject, you will also get an oportunity to learn more about handling people and working as a team (a skill you will definately need more than you realize right now)

And don't worry, at 13 we are all uncoordinated in more ways than one.

If you want to attract a professional person you yourself should act professional and intelligent. That starts with taking the time to type out the whole word instead of little abbreviations. Good punctuation would help too. Remember, that's what professional people are used to seeing.

I just got the internet and I want to know how you can meet new people on the internet. I have placed this question on this site before and I want to apologize for not making my self clear. Now I am trying to correct my mistake. I got biting answers like go back to school and stuff but I am in school and I practically know every one so I want to know how you can meet new people that is under 16. Every thing I do I see that I have to be 18 years and older and because I am not and I would feel guilty if I lied I have no more moves to make so I am relying on you guys to help me.I want some fun in my life. the best way is ask ur friends at sckool, clubs, etc. looka nd check in forums and blogs. you can also play games that other play like gunbound, maplestory, etc..... but then don't try to hard. just do well in skool and time will come for u to meet more people.

*** not everyone tells the truth on the net, so be careful.... besides under 16 needs parents permisiion so it hard to find under age on the net but not impossible.

Just because someone says that they are 16, doesn't mean that this is necessarily the truth.Case in point, how many sex predators have trapped kids using this method. Take heed of what I say, and be extremely careful when talking to people over the internet. You really DON"T know who is one the other end.

Reply:There's a good reason why most of those sites say you have to be 18 and over. As a 16-year-old, you are still under your parent's control. You are very appealing to a bunch of sick people out there. And you are very, very vulnerable -- much more than you realize.

Rules like that are for your own safety.

Having said that, it depends on what you mean when you say you want to "meet" new people. If you really just want to chat with people -- make what we used to call "pen pals" -- then sign on to any chat room and chat away. I assume that if you've gotten to Y!A that you're computer-savvy enough to get on Yahoo messenger. But please, please, don't actually MEET any of those people. Just be happy that you have someone to "chat" with in the safety of your own home and leave it at that.

And if you really do know practically everyone in your school, good for you! Exploit those relationships. You've got much more going for you there than you think.

Recently all of my friends moved and now I am having a hard time meeting people.My friend came and visited me this weekend and told me I have to stop keeping myself in my shell and get out and meet people and that she is really worried for me. I am very reserved and have a hard time opening up to people..even my close friends. I am worried too!However I hate going out to bars. It's like I want to reach out to people however I feel it is easier to turn inward and become a hermit. I am very lonely and spend almost every waking alone. Help!!

I can relate with you as even I am an introvert but I try my best to step out of the comfort zone. Make a conscious effort everyday to say Hi to everyone you know. That would improve your confidence with the people you know. Once you realise you are being accepted by them, you will slowly gain confidence and then you can try the same with meeting new people. A casual talk on the weather or the surrounding is the perfect ice-breaker. Its all in the mind, and once you conquer it no one can stop you from being an extrovert.

It is extremely hard to meet people in public places. Bars are usually good because alchohol can be a helper. go check out local music scene, and you will find some freinds!

No i'm just kidding, you can meet quality people anywhere, it just takes a lot of sifting. Get out there and talk to everyone that you see. Make multiple circles of friends, once you start talking to people it is easy to decide if they are shallow or not.

Unfortunately the idea of meeting people in bars or clubs got old a long time ago and the online thing has lead to quite a few first dates that were uniformly horrid. You know, the single attractive 32 year old I was supposed to meet turned out to be a married, bearded musk ox who might have been 32 during the depression.... any ideas?

Hi Daniel. Thanks for not being a teen - I was about to give up hope.

I'm single and in my 30's too and it's hard...... really hard. After age 24 it was nearly impossible because I didn't "hang out" at bars or anything anymore. I know how nasty it is to date people from the web, I had some nightmare dates as well. My advice is to maybe join a gym, a volunteer group or get a night job (that's what I did). And look for things like speed dating or singles mixers or get togethers. Like those hiking trips and stuff. I met a great guy at one of those. There were some things like volleyball and cooking classes, swimming classes and stuff like that at my old school that adults sign up for.

My best advice: fill your life up. Make a happy life for yourself doing whatever it is that you like. Try not to focus on what you don't have. You probably have a lot right now - build on it.

P.S. I forgot to mention pets. Get a dog or maybe volunteer at a pet rescue, or be a foster home to some lucky dog. Now there's time well spent.

Reply:I have been there. I would just get involved in things that you like to do that you haven't been able to before now. And it is true, when you are not looking, someone will pop up. I met my current husband b/c I worked with his mother, who asked me over to her house to join them for a family dinner. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have met my husband at her house.

I would simply try to find the things you enjoy again (we all give certain things up when we get married or are in a serious relationship, to an extent anyway) and maybe try to find some new hobbies. This way, even if you don't meet someone you want to date, you will be meeting people that you have things in common with and can be friends with. You could try joining book clubs if you like to read, many churches have singles groups, there are many opportunities for volunteering out there, too. Good luck to you!

But there are a lot of spots besides the bar scene to meet women your age. Depending on your interests, it might be a library, a sporting event, a volunteer organization or some friends may try and hook you up with a single friend of theirs that they think you may connect with. I miss being in a committed relationship and would like to meet the right someone locally. I've looked on yahoo personals and have chatted with some people, but I don't think that's where my "Mr. Right" is. I do NOT want a friend with benefits, cyber-s*x, etc.

I'm a 40-ish woman. I don't drink much and don't smoke or do drugs at all. I don't care for bars (don't smoke/drink much) and I'm not really into the club scene. I do like to hike and be outdoors, but don't usually see single guys out hiking - they either have buddies or a partner.

The Opera's season is over for this year but they usually need volunteers. Check CityBeat for local music spots (the listings usually say if there is a cover charge. Without knowing any of your interests, I have run out of top-of-my-head suggestions. Good luck, being alone when you don't want to be is a pain.

I went for an interview, and looks like I will be volunteering at an animal shelter once a week for a few hours (bottle feeding). Although I do volunteer on a semi-regular basis; most of my volunteering haven't been great places to meet people my age.

Certainly I am not treating like volunteer work as a hookup place, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't mind meeting people my age (mid 20s).

So what kind of volunteers will I likely meet at the shelter?

There are many kinds of people at the shelter where I volunteer. Younger people (usually on weekends) some do their community work for high school there too. Then there are those who love animals, but can;t afford their own. These are all ages. This was me when I first started to volunteer. Then there are older, retired or slightly disabled people who can't work a full time job, but come to help with the animals in any way they can.

All love animals and all are for responsible pet ownership. Volunteering at a shelter is not easy. yes it's great when you see an animal find a new home or one that was very sick or injured slowly return to health. You do see many heartbreaking sights such as animals that have been starved or abused in other ways. There are also those who are just no longer wanted. They were bought on a whim and suddenly they are an inconvenience.

You will meet lots of great people at the shelter for sure from many different walks of life.

Alright, so heres the deal. Soon I can drive. Where should I go to meet some people. .Like I don't know how to do these things . So like if I am at a gas station, (for example) and there was some girls in their car, and like I want to meet them. How do I tackel that, but not too weird and ebarresing. Or like in a store, or uhmm a fast food place. I always like it when a guy shows he's interested. Like if i'm at the gas station and a guys smiles and waves i smile back and then he knows he can start a conversation. If your at a stop light smile at the pretty girl and soon enough you will meet someone.

Why do people I meet seem to make up such outrageous stories when meeting me?

It seems often that when I meet someone in public like an aquaintance or even a complete stranger, they often go off telling me about all the rich and famous people that they hang out with, or worked for when it is clearly impossible. I have been told by people that I have a certain "presence" and that I am very articulate. I try to be as down to earth as possible. Is there a chance that people are seing me as someone that they need to impress? Note: I really don't want to come off this way...I'm rather be the "guy next door"

We know you want to be a regular guy, but you are like Jesus, humble and simple, but still our Lord (at least you think so...)

I'm a person who looks rather average, and currently lives a rather ordinary and quieter lifestyle for the most part...but it hasn't always been like that. In the 46 years I've lived, I've managed to pack a lot in my life. I've done a lot of things (all verifiable), gone a number of interesting places, and have made aquaintences with MANY famous people. There are parts of my life that seem glamorous and other parts that have been simply mundane. Maybe some of those people had the same sort of experiences, too, and are choosing to play up the more glamorous part to make themselves seem more interesting...and what's so wrong with that?

Why should they have to downplay their lives and experiences just to fit your comfort level? We're all different. Some people are just more flamboyant than others. Some are more low key. It's all good.

Also, don't you know how to take a compliment? Having a "presence" and being articulate is a GOOD thing...nothing whatsoever to be ashamed of!

There are many people who make up stuff to make their lives more interesting, some of them even believe their own fables too, but I never mind that and wouldn't point out that I don't believe a word - people are entitled to their dreams. Boastfulness is easily forgiven.

How am I to meet new people, especially men?

Ok, I'm 18, in high school %26amp; I don't get out much because I attend an online academy. I'm not into partying or being wild %26amp; I don't really like the mall that much. And the movie theater isn't really a place to meet new people either. Where else is there to meet new people?

How am I to meet new people, especially men?
Church works great if you get involved in some of the small groups especially if they have a singles ministry.

Cultural events work well, like festivals, jazz performances, art shows. You meet people that might share your interests.

Some areas have a volunteer singles group. Not sure where it is online but they have chapters where singles do charity work like assist with marathons, work with habitat for humanity etc.

Always look kind of cute when you go out even to the grocery store. Not talking dressing up like heels or anything or even a dress necessarily ; but cute casual clothes over bummy t-shirts. You never know where you might me a nice guy.

Reply:Maybe you could join into a volunteer organization. For example, I volunteer with an organization that helps teach children music appreciaton and how to play musical instruments. Nothing big, no huge comittment to it unless I decide. We put on a recital concert every 3 months, we attend musicals and other recitals, we go around the community and talk to people that live there to fundraise for the organization. Not only do you meet new people, if you are interested in college listing that you have volunteered somewhere could make your apllication look better. But most of all you are helping out and giving back.

I am going to the UK for four months and was wondering how to meet people, as I will be alone.

I know you can go to the pubs and clubs, but is there any other recommendations for meeting friends while over there?

I think you should generally avoid going to pubs and clubs on your own as this is a good way to pick people up for the night, but not such a great way to meet friends!

Maybe try joining some sort of group, or evening class or sports club or something (i.e. art classes, join a local football team or something like that). Other than that, if you are working or studying then you should be able to make friends with colleaugues/fellow students. Just dont be shy, and ask if they want to join you for lunch, or a drink after work.

What are the best ways to meet people, friends, girls etc when traveling?

I travel in the winter time for 3-4 months every winter. I run a landscape business and stay very busy during the months between middle March and midde November, and do not have really ANY social life much during this time.

I want to meet friends and possibly a girlfriend overseas, but when I travel, I always find myself a bit lonely and difficult to meet people for long term relationships.

What are the best ways to meet , especially a girlfriend you think, in for example , Europe? (if going there)

p.s. I was thinking, if i could take a class or something , like an art class it would be nice , but I really think that would be expensive. but I am thinking of picking a selected city/town to visit and staying in one place (area) for the full 3-4 months this time, instead of traveling around a lot.(as it is interesting, but kind of tiring as well, and lacks depth or appreciation sometimes)

If you do not want a full time job and can not get a part time job, maybe a volunteer job?

That way you will meet the others who also stay there for the winter.

Or, if you like warm weather, do the same in a resort town in the tropics or southern hemisphere.

But remember that most people would not be wild to commit themselves to someone who is sure to leave after a few months.

Why not stay in your hometown, meet nice people there in the wintermonths? You will have the odd hour in summer to meet them?
